[Tech News] The Auto-Tuner

bigasschainSince the dawn of time, man has had music. With this music came the frustrating and foreign idea of “pitch,” with asserts that the music you make should sound a certain way. This notion has stunted the common non-talented man’s creativity for too long. That is why we came up with the auto-tuner, a small computer chip that is installed into one’s throat. This little marvel of technology gives the singer/cyborg the illusion of “knowing what the hell they’re doing when it comes to singing.”

You’re probably asking yourself, “Why don’t they just leave singing to people who know what they’re doing?” Continue reading

Michael Jackson Dies From Cardiac Arrest

michael-jacksonConfirmed by the L.A Times and NBC News, Michael Jackson, perhaps the most influential figure in the world of pop music, died today at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California from cardiac arrest.

He was taken to UCLA Medical Center after a 911 call was made from his California home reporting that he had collapsed, initiating a full alarm response. When medics arrived, reports say, he had already stopped breathing and was immediately rushed to the hospital in a deep coma. By the time he arrived, his pulse was gone and doctors worked vigorously to revive him, but their efforts were sadly in vain. Continue reading

[Movie Review] Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Theatrical)

Overview:

transformers_2_wide_posterOverwrought with an indiscernible plot and outlandish action sequences, the sequel to the popular Transformers franchise is brutal in every sense of the word. I took a sheet of paper into the theater, to jot down things both “Good” and”Bad”. It ended up double sided “Bad.” Continue reading

[Game News] GTA: Chinatown Wars Loses DS Exclusivity, Heads to PSP

A short while ago we posted a review of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the first game in Rockstar’s renowned open world franchise to come to the Nintendo DS, and it was exclusive to boot. Emphasis on the word was.

gtachinatownwarspspIn a strange out-of-nowhere move, Rockstar has announced that they will be taking the critically acclaimed DS game to the PSP. I am almost positive that this decision was made the game’s disappointingly low sales numbers, but I’m not sure the game is going to do any better on the PSP. Continue reading

[CD Review] Marcy Playground “Shapeshifter”

Overview:

marcyplayground shapeshifter“Shapeshifter” is the follow-up to the band’s self-titled premiere album which achieved platinum status and rocketed the band into temporary stardom with its biggest single, “Sex & Candy.” If you’ve never heard of Marcy Playground for any other reason, I’m almost positive everyone reading this review has heard that song.

With no “Sex & Candy,” to drive sales of “Shapeshifter” beyond the stratosphere, most people have never heard of this album. This obviously meant less commercial success for Marcy Playground’s second album, but critical acclaim was higher and more deserving than ever. In fact, many critics including myself consider this to be the best album Marcy Playground has ever released, which makes it a shame that the album is so obscure.

[Nostalgia Nonsense] Sears Air Conditioner Commercial from the 90’s

So I was searching through YouTube videos as I so frequently do and stumbled across a commercial I used to love as a kid. Why do I find this funny? I’m not really sure, but there is something indefinably comical about the way the two pinhead actors in this commercial deliver their respective last lines. If you don’t agree, sorry, but I haven’t posted anything in awhile and I was elated to find this so I elected to share. And even if you find it to be a waste of time, with the scalding heat it’s, at the very least, timely.

Summer ’09 Movie Season Part 1

summer-movieEach year, film studios stack their summer release schedule with some can’t-miss blockbusters, usually sequels, and they make millions and millions of dollars. It’s tried and true. People have a little bit more spare time during the summer, and are maybe a little more apt to go to the theater to spend some of their hard earned money.

Summer 2009 has been horrifically disappointing thus far. We started off May 1st with the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and will continue this week with the much anticipated release of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Continue reading

[Book News] DC to Publish Weekly Series of Superhero Comic Strips

dccomicswednesdaycomicsDC Comics has announced they will be publishing a new weekly series called the Wednesday Comics, which will be delivered to comic shops every Wednesday for a period of 12 weeks on a newsprint format. Each publication contains multiple strips of famous DC comics such as Superman, Batman, The Green Lantern and many more, telling 15 stories in total.

When asked about the temporary return to the newspaper format, DC Art Director Mark Chiarello said “There’s a certain romance to the history of the big old Sunday funnies that I wanted to try to recapture in Wednesday Comics, why not dust off the format and have a little fun?”

The weekly series kicks off July 8 at $3.99 for each publication. If you are only interested in the Superman strip and are afraid of inky fingers, USA Today will publish all 12 Superman strips online for your viewing pleasure.
