[Music Review] Kanye West “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” Deluxe Edition

Listening to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an event. Somehow, in a world saturated with great music, Kanye West has proven an ability to regularly produce some of the most compelling, globally and internally poignant at once, most listenable pieces of music today. On his fifth album, as he has regularly done for nearly a decade now, Kanye has raised the bar to superhuman levels yet again, potentially changing the game one more time.

There is an internalized swagger that bursts out of your speakers for the entirety of this album. Kanye has never been lacking confidence, and here, it’s like listening to a man who is truly the best in the world at what he does. Kanye lets you know what’s truly on his mind, and that’s the sign of a truly good lyricist. He’s not painting these vague, generalized portraits here, these are personal songs. Kanye proves he hasn’t lost touch with the world. In fact, he might be getting a better handle on it with each album.

[Music Review] Skewby “Proving You Wrong Since 1988”

skewby proving you wrongI’m familiar with rap music. I listen to hip-hop. It’s not exactly my favorite genre, but I find it a worthwhile one when done correctly. I frequently put on Kanye West, 2Pac, Notorious BIG, & Jay-Z, and find them to be the best of the genre for my tastes. I’m not at all versed on underground hip-hop, or stuff that isn’t the most mainstream from the genre. I listen to what I know, and since it’s not my favorite genre, I rarely if ever seek out new stuff I haven’t heard. Also, even when I do find tracks I like, I can never find out who the hell it is because people just burned some random Rap mix to play at a party, so I can never track down more by the artist. But I’ll tell you, this album that was sent to us is actually a pretty good album and, overall, I’m glad I listened to it.

[Tech News] The Auto-Tuner

bigasschainSince the dawn of time, man has had music. With this music came the frustrating and foreign idea of “pitch,” with asserts that the music you make should sound a certain way. This notion has stunted the common non-talented man’s creativity for too long. That is why we came up with the auto-tuner, a small computer chip that is installed into one’s throat. This little marvel of technology gives the singer/cyborg the illusion of “knowing what the hell they’re doing when it comes to singing.”

You’re probably asking yourself, “Why don’t they just leave singing to people who know what they’re doing?” Continue reading

Remember last week’s PackRat Paragraphs when I showed you guys the flask belt buckle but told you I also bought another, much cooler buckle? Well here it is, gaze in awe and amazement at my solid bling turntable belt buckle.

Yeah, I know it’s way too fresh and I’m way too white, but it’s wicked awesome anyway. I love standing at the end of the register bagging groceries at work and saying “Wik-wikka-rikka-tik Hel wikka-tik Hello! D-d-did you fin-rikka fi-fi-find everikka-tikka-ty thing alrikka-tikka-right?” Yeah I’m a total douche, but I don’t care. I love it.

Hip Hop Harmonica

This is a video of me beatboxing the harmonica live at a Bogey’s show as a warm-up for local band Nate (article soon, I swear). It’s not very long and I messed up a couple times, but it’s still pretty sweet.

It’s just a short little ditty, not an actual song or anything. It’s groovy none-the-less. Beatboxing harmonica is the greatest discovery since the noodle maker or condoms. Haven’t decided which.
