There are a lot of great flash game sites out there, but nothing beats playing the old classic NES games. Legend of Zelda, Super Dodgeball, Super Mario Bros. and many, many more are now available online. Virtual NES boasts a large selection of games for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. I now have more ways to kill time in my web-page design class than ever.

[Game Review] The Legend of Zelda (Wii Virtual Console, NES)

Originally released in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System, The Legend of Zelda was a bold new design from the now-legendary Shigeru Miyamoto. The game shipped with a gold cartridge and a revolutionary ability to save a game’s progress via batter power. Sporting a huge overworld to explore, tons of dungeons and bosses to vanquish, and yet another blond princess to rescue, Miyamoto’s new game went on to become one of the most influential titles in the industry.

Since its release, there have been many sequels, spinoffs, character cameo appearances, and even a philosophical book, but there is only one original. This game is where the greatest franchise in video game history was born. Continue reading

Retro-Review: Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!! (NES)

Overview:

Who doesn’t love Punch Out? I don’t think I know a single person. When Punch Out was first released it was widely regarded as the single best and most innovative boxing game available. Period. Here we are, over 20 years later and it’s still one of the funnest games out there. If you’ve never played Punch Out, you can download it on the Wii’s Virtual Console for 5 bucks and score yourself endless fun. Continue reading
