[Game Review] Manhunt 2 (Wii)

Genre: Stealth/Action

I’m a video game elitist. I’m picky about the games I play, and I’m extremely particular about games I enjoy. Oftentimes I feel like games are TOO complicated and complex for me to enjoy. I get lost, and not in the good way, between missions and tasks and side missions and side tasks that I never feel like I’m progressing enough in the game to warrant the amount of time I invest into the game. You fly through the first couple of missions, feeling good, and then all of a sudden you end up between 30% and 60% completed before you really hit the wall, where the game becomes a chore rather than entertaining.

Manhunt 2 centers around Danny Lamb, an escapee from a mental hospital, and his pursuit of the truth. Now, I didn’t play Manhunt so I probably missed a lot of backstory because of that, and perhaps that actually allows me to enjoy the game enough for what it is. I have no expectations from the previous game for the sequel to live up to. Continue reading

[Game Review] Doom (Xbox Live Arcade)

Some people may know about the Doom franchise because of the dreadful 2005 movie that was based roughly on the game series. Others might be more familiar with Doom 3 for the original Xbox, which garnered critical acclaim for its impressive graphics and scary atmosphere. But if you’re like me, you love the original Doom from 1993. [Mobile Game Review] Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution (iPhone)

Overview:

civrevAt first I was a little hesitant to buy this game because I have unfortunately never played a Civilization game. I didn’t know if I would be able to get into it or not because I have a problem with turn-based strategy games like that. However, after I tinkered around for a while and got used to it, I started to understand the game’s mechanics and how to play it effectively. Continue reading

Review: Audition (PC)

audition

Overview

Audition is a dancing/rhythm online game made by Nexon, producers of one of the more famous MMOs – Maple Story. It has several different game modes, most of which are pretty similar, presenting you with a set of keys which you have to press in order very quickly, then press the space bar on the fourth beat of the measure, which is indicated by a little shaded area. There is one other mode that is very different, called Beat Up. It can be played in 4 or 6-key mode (some people say there is 8-key, but I haven’t seen it yet), and it’s a lot like Dance Dance Revolution.
