About Daniel Gauer

I do the beard and glasses thing. I like movies and listen to a lot of They Might Be Giants and Amanda Palmer. I love stand up comedy and podcasts and sleeping. Also Arrested Develoment is the best show ever. That is all.

DVD Review: Flogging Molly “Live At The Greek Theatre”

For the uninitiated, Flogging Molly may seem like a bunch of Irish dudes playing fiddle and accordion, but for me they popped my concert cherry and have been a favorite of mine for a long time. I was unaware that they released a live DVD/CD set, so when I stumbled upon it I was very surprised. I had been out of the Flogging Molly loop for awhile so I wasn’t sure what to expect of it.

Review:

I’ll start off by saying that if you have not experienced a Flogging Molly concert then you are missing out on one of the best nights of your life. But if you can’t go then this is a pretty good glimpse of what their show is like. The crowd is pumped and excited and that energy clearly has an effect on the band, with each of them sweating and shouting along with the fans. It’s really intense and enjoyable. Continue reading

[Podcast Review] Jordan, Jesse GO!

Overview

Jordan, Jesse GO! is, simply put, two friends and occasionally a guest talking. It’s the brainchild of public radio host Jesse Thorn (aka America’s Radio Sweetheart) and sketch comedian and Fuel TV host Jordan Morris (aka Boy Detective).

Each week on the show the two friends discuss anything and everything including Jesse’s early life as the only white inner city youth in San Francisco to Jordan’s passionate love for obscure video games and everything in between. One question still remains. Is it entertaining? Continue reading

[Music Review] Vermillion Lies “What’s In The Box?”

Rarely do I ever buy an album without listening to it first, and when I do it usually sucks more than your mother (UP TOP!). Luckily, I recently found one album that breaks the mold and I couldn’t be happier.

What’s In the Box? is the second full length album from sisters Kim and Zoe Boekbinder, known as Vermillion Lies, and it is fantastic. I had checked out their music on a whim because I am a fan of the “punk cabaret” stylings of The Dresden Dolls front woman Amanda Palmer, who Vermillion Lies previously opened for. I checked out their albums and they are very good. Continue reading

[New Writer] Better Know a Guy with a Beard

Hi kids of the internets and webs. I am Daniel Gauer. I hail from the far off land of Terre Haute, Indiana. I have a few things to tell you about myself so we can be friends here on a website.

I love television. My favorite shows of all time are Arrested Development, Firefly, Lost, and Pushing Daisies. I also have an obsession with British television. My favorites include the semi-recent adult swim show The Mighty Boosh(which I purchased from England as well as a special DVD player to watch them on), The Office and the other Ricky Gervais series Extras, the Simon Pegg series Spaced, and the brilliantly geeky show The I.T. Crowd.

I am also a big fan of animated stuff too. The Simpsons is great and I will usually give everything on Adult Swim a chance, with a few exceptions (I am looking at you Assy McGee and 12 oz. Mouse). The Venture Brothers may be the best show Adult Swim has ever made. Continue reading
