[Energy Drink Review] Sport Energy: Mango Cream

sportmangocreamenergydrinkI was digging through my fridge in an attempt to find something to help wake me up and quench my thirst when I stumbled upon the Mango Cream flavor of Sport Energy. I didn’t even know I had this, but based on the Fruit Punch flavor I reviewed last week I figured it was my safest bet for a decent energy drink.

I opened the can and lifted the vent up to my nose to get a feel for what I was about to drink. I was met with a soft scent which consisted primarily of a soft cream aroma on accompanying a sweet, fruity mango twist. The aroma was obviously artificial, but didn’t have any disgusting chemical burn. It was also surprisingly subtle, and I even had to sniff it a few times to get a proper impression.

The first sip yielded mixed results. At first I was treated to a sweet, fruity, creamy and seemingly refreshing beverage. About two seconds after that first gulp, however, I found a thick, starchy coating in my mouth as well as an unappealing aftertaste that I couldn’t get rid of. Overall the good outweighs the bad, but Sport performs less than average in the taste department.

When it comes to kick, Mango Cream performs the exact same as its Fruit Punch-flavored sister and offers a decent boost of energy that you’ll feel about 20 minutes after drinking and last about two hours with no jitters or noticeable crash. It’s better than most sports energy drinks, but it’s certainly nothing outstanding.

Sport Energy: Mango Cream comes in a 16 oz, 2-serving container for the industry standard price of $1.99. If you live close to a Big Lots, however, you can grab a can for a mere 60¢.

Final Words:

All in all, Mango Cream Sport is a decent energy drink with an appetizing aroma, decent flavor despite some setbacks, and acceptable kick. It’s hard to suggest spending the full $1.99 on this beverage, but if you happen to see one at your local Big Lots I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Pros

  • Creamy aroma
  • Kicks harder than most sports energy drinks
  • Big Lots carries it for 60¢

Cons

  • Leaves a thick coating in your mouth
  • Medicinal aftertaste

Score: 6.7/10 (Decent)
