[Random Review] The Price of College

studentloansOverview:

If you’re like me and are incredibly intelligent, you might end up going to college. However, as it turns out, college is both expensive AND unaffordable for nearly EVERYONE.  And although useful, student loans are both ridiculously expensive and extremely annoying, at times bordering on obscene.

Review:

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a confession. I sold my soul to the devil, and his name was “College Education.”

If you’re like me, and find yourself being incredibly intelligent and highly motivated (by everyone else, not yourself), then you might end up taking classes on a college campus. But as it turns out, these classes you are taking to  complete a degree aren’t cheap. In fact, they are INCREDIBLY expensive.

The way most people pay for these is to take out student loans, and I’ll tell you right now, they BLOW ASS.

Granted, they are incredibly useful. By taking them out, I as able to get an amazing education from Indiana University, which was both well-rounded and efficient as well as rewarding and enjoyable.

But I graduated, and that education isn’t so enjoyable now.

You might be saying, “Andrew, don’t bitch. You’re the one who decided to go to college, and an expensive one, and you’re the one who agreed to pay for it.”

You’re right.

But getting an education in our country shouldn’t be as difficult, or as expensive, as it is. There are plenty of smart, capable people who don’t even get the opportunity I had to go through college and end up on the sunny side with a degree.

And, sort of, lucky them.

There is no need to envy me, oh high and mighty college graduate that I am. I owe so much money that if I am only able to afford minimum payments on my loans, I could be paying these companies until I’m ALMOST RETIRED.

Doesn’t that just blow your mind?

I’m going to work my entire life, to pay back for the opportunity to work for MY ENTIRE LIFE.

Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you. Go to college, better yourself and your  situation. But do it smarter than I did. Don’t get sucked into thinking you have to go somewhere with a good basketball team or a nice party scene. Go somewhere you can afford. You will still meet some good people, and in most cases, you’ll get a good education and a decent enough job.

And you won’t have to pay all the money you earn for the classes you took to get the job in the first place.

Final Words:

Although getting a top-rate education is nice, getting raped in the ass by Student Loan providers is not so top-rate. There are plenty of options, and be sure to do your research and find the option  that best suits you and your career goals. Don’t go to college just because you think you have to. Trust me, you can’t afford it.

  1. You know I wanted to embrace this as I am in a similar financial quagmire. Yet I could not help but be disgusted by your failure to acknowledge the two wondrous years you spent at the glorious Indiana State University. It’s this new found elitism that made me start referring to you as “Majors” because it’s quite clear the “Bridgeman” I once knew and loved is long gone. For shame.

  2. It’s funny you point that out, because honest to god, I had ISU (and you specifically) written in at one point in an early draft but it felt like I was trying too hard to namedrop you in it, so I ended up taking it out. Sorry.
